Expertise
Offgas Handling and Treatment

With a combined 40 years of experience among our associates, we have deep expertise in gas handling and treatment. Whether it’s waste heat recovery, hot gas cleaning, scrubbing, filtration, or acid production from strong or low-strength gases—or even the capture and treatment of fugitive emissions—our team has firsthand experience with a wide range of available technologies, reinforced by practical knowledge of real-world systems and their complexities.
Reliable and effective gas systems can be designed, built, and operated successfully when the right expertise is applied. We have that expertise.
Study case
Off Gas Transition Project Study – South America
CaEng was brought in to deliver conceptual engineering studies to quantify the modifications required to increase the capture of sulfur dioxide, arsenic and total particulate (subject contaminants) for the transition projects.
The objective of these transition projects was to properly establish the facility’s current situation and use this baseline to determine the methodology and prioritization of projects required to meet environmental regulation goals, ultimately allowing the facility to achieve compliance.
Study case
Primary and Secondary Off Gas System Modeling – South America
CaEng was retained to develop models for the primary and secondary off gas systems for the client’s copper smelter. The models were developed based on information collected from multiple site visits and calibrated with measurement data. The models will be used by the client’s operations personnel to help ensure effective emission capture.
Study case
Stack Emissions Compliance Study and Basic Engineering – Central Africa
CaEng was retained to develop options for bringing a smelter’s stack emissions into compliance. Several options were developed and concept-level layouts and cost estimates were prepared, with the preferred solution combining gas streams and installing two flue gas desulphurization units to align with both existing operations and planned expansions. The study covered electric furnace secondary emissions, Peirce Smith Converter secondary emissions, and anode refining off-gases, and CaEng also supported basic engineering deliverables such as PFDs, P&IDs, general arrangements, and vendor inquiries to refine design and budget estimates.
