Balance of plant design

CaEng is well versed with Balance of Plant facilities and infrastructure requirements for metallurgical processing facilities. For the majority of past projects, CaEng has provided engineering services to define and design balance of plant facilities.

Study case

E-Waste Processing Facility – Confidential

CaEng was retained to develop the essential sitewide infrastructure required to support an E-Waste Smelter facility. The scope was established to ensure the facility could accommodate the full operational demands of all major process packages under peak conditions.

CaEng was responsible for the development of the electrical distribution system, encompassing the substations, and emergency power supply. The mandate also addressed the provision of key utility systems, including compressed air, oxygen, nitrogen, steam, condensate and natural gas as well as the development of potable and utility water systems, advanced water treatment, cooling water and cooling towers, fire water, sanitary sewer, stormwater, and the sitewide pipe rack network interconnecting all process and utility systems.

Copper Smelter Concept Study – Vietnam

The Nui Phao mine is located 80 km north of Hanoi, Vietnam. The open pit mine yields ammonium paratungstate, acid grade fluorspar, bismuth and copper concentrate. CaEng was retained to determine the viability of a small-scale copper smelter and refinery to process up to 25-30 ktpa of copper concentrate and 20-25 ktpa of sulphide concentrate.

Engineering for all areas of the plant were progressed including all material handling aspects of the plant, primary and secondary smelting, leaching, electrowinning, off gas handling and balance of plant facilities.
